Employment Type Full-Time

San Francisco Rising Community Organizer

Organizational Description:

San Francisco Rising is an alliance of long-standing (10-45 years old) grassroots organizations organizing African-American, Latino, Chinese, and Filipino communities in San Francisco for housing & worker rights, environmental & racial justice, and youth & women’s empowerment. We came together  to build the political power of our communities to win lasting change on a broad set of issues. We have helped win a $15 minimum wage, Free City College, stronger renter protections, and Sanctuary protections for immigrants. In addition to San Francisco campaigns, SFR helped found Bay Resistance, a vehicle to defend our communities from right wing attacks in the wake of Trump’s election.

Position Overview:

San Francisco Rising (SFR) is looking for a full-time Community Organizer to help develop and implement SFR’s strategy & vision to build an individual membership base through a “distributed organizing” model.  (Distributed organizing activates volunteer organizers to start groups and lead teams with varying degrees of autonomy.) We seek a team player who is motivated to experiment with a variety of  strategies to organize SF Rising neighborhood chapters, small grassroots donors, and lead campaigns about corporate accountability, immigrant rights, and more. We want to make SF Rising a vehicle for progressive San Franciscans to have voice and power. The individual membership will join with SF Rising’s existing grassroots base in low-income communities of color in San Francisco.

We’re looking for a highly motivated individual that isn’t afraid to build a membership base from scratch, experiment with different organizing models, as well as take initiative to drive programs forward on their own. SFR is a collaborative and supportive work environment, committed to developing the leadership and skills of our staff through regular supervision and staff development opportunities.
